Plymouth’s Box Museum is a fabulous place of culture, with regular ever-changing exhibitions. There is permanent year round archive of collections and art. The Box is a FREE museum, it also holds free family workshops and a range of events. It’s located in the centre of Plymouth, so you could easily travel by train (from St Germans) it’s only 18 mins via this mode of transport and then a 15 min walk from Plymouth station.
In June (2026) The Box in Plymouth, was named the 2026 Art Fund Museum of the Year at a ceremony on the Cutty Sark at Royal Museums Greenwich, London, where it also received the £120,000 prize fund.
Drive time: 37 mins
This museum is directly opposite Drake’s Circus shopping mall, therefore if you are trying to appeal to different ages and tastes, this day out ‘combination’ might work well for all concerned. All indoors, so a good all-weather outing idea 🙂
