Charlestown was a fairly unassuming fishing village that was constructed in the 19th century as an industrial port to export China Clay mainly. The port and town expanded, many elegant Georgian houses popped up and have not changed much over time. This was obviously attractive as a location for film and television companies – filming credits include; Poldark, Hornblower & Mansfield Park to name a few. If maritime history floats your boat (!) then head for the Charlestown Shipwreck Centre.
